Frequently Asked Questions About Our Epoxy Resins
We’ve noticed that certain questions come up again and again, so we’ve made things easy by creating a dedicated FAQ page. It’s packed with clear answers to common queries, ensuring you have all the information you need at your fingertips. Whether you're new to epoxy or a seasoned user, our FAQ page is here to guide you every step of the way.
1. What is the mix ratio?
Our tabletop epoxy resin requires a 1:1 mix ratio of resin to hardener. One part Part A and one part Part B.
Deep Pour is a 2:1 mix ratio. Two parts Part A and one part Part B Hardener.
Laminating resin comes in 2:1 and 4:1 mix ratios. 2:1 is two parts Part A and one part Part B. For 4:1, it is four parts Part A and one part Part B.
Be sure to measure by volume for best results. It is important to be precise.
2. What safety precautions should I take?
Always work in a well-ventilated area and wear protective gear, including gloves, respirator and safety goggles. Avoid direct skin contact, and if accidental contact occurs, wash the area immediately with soap and water.
3. What do I do if I get air bubbles?
To eliminate air bubbles in table top and deep pour epoxy, use a heat gun or torch after you’ve poured the resin. Gently wave the heat source over the surface to pop any bubbles before the curing process begins.
4. Is this epoxy resin self-leveling?
Yes, our table top and deep pour epoxy resin is self-leveling. Simply pour it onto your surface and let it naturally create a smooth, even layer.
5. How thick can I pour this epoxy resin?
Tabletop epoxy resin- 1/8”
Deep Pour epoxy resin- 1”-2”
Laminating epoxy resin- just thick enough to saturate the fiberglass well.
If you need more thickness, pour in layers. Allow each layer to partially cure before applying the next to avoid heat buildup.
6. What is the cure time?
The resin typically takes 24–72 hours to fully cure, depending on environmental factors like temperature and humidity.
7. Can this be used on outdoor tables and artwork?
Our table top and deep pour epoxy resin is UV-resistant but requires a polyurethane top coating if you will be putting it outdoors. All epoxy resin will eventually yellow in the sun.
8. Can this epoxy resin be thinned?
No, we do not recommend thinning epoxy resin as it may compromise its structural integrity and performance.
19. What temperature is best for working with epoxy resin?
The ideal working temperature is between 70°F and 80°F (21°C and 27°C). This ensures optimal viscosity and curing conditions.
10. What do I do if my epoxy resin is cold?
If your resin is cold, warm both the resin and hardener bottles in a water bath at around 90°F (32°C) before mixing. This reduces viscosity and ensures better mixing and curing.
11. Is this epoxy resin VOC-free?
Yes, our epoxy resin is completely VOC-free, making it a safer option for both you and the environment.
12. Is there an odor?
Epoxy resin emits less odor than polyester and vinyl ester resin, making it more comfortable to work with in well-ventilated spaces.
13. Can this be used on live edge tables?
Yes. Our table top and deep pour epoxy resin is perfect for live edge tables, providing a strong, beautiful finish that enhances the natural character of the wood.
14. Is it scratch-resistant?
Once fully cured, our epoxy resin is highly scratch-resistant, making it ideal for tabletops, countertops, and other surfaces with frequent use. For even more resistance, use a protective top coating over the epoxy resin.
